Crítica: Sojourner – Empires of Ash (2016)

Llega a nuestras manos la magistral obra de Sojourner "Empires of Ash", bajo la etiqueta Black Metal Epico/Atmosférico. La banda cuenta con miembros de Dunedin/Nueva Zelanda y Malmö /Suecia. Luego de lanzar el single “Heritage of The Natural Realm” en 2015, logran editar en formato digital este que es su primer larga duración “Empires of Ash”, y el 3 de julio en formato físico.

La banda se forma con el objetivo de combinar las pasiones por el Black Metal Atmosférico y el Folklore de la música popular, sus líricas están basadas en temas fantásticos y en la naturaleza.

Si bien no es un álbum conceptual, el disco necesita ser escuchado en su totalidad, y en el orden establecido, para mantener el sentido de las historias contadas. Encierra un viaje, en como el hombre destruye la naturaleza y por lógica a sí mismo. Este concepto si da forma al nombre Imperio de Cenizas.

Empires of Ash, logra 57 minutos de duración. En el cual se mezclan la dulce voz femenina de Chloe Bray, quien además toca la guitarra y una pequeña flauta. El registro gutural lo ejecuta Emilio Crespo. El aporte del multi instrumentista Mike Lamb, quien está a cargo de las baterías, guitarra, piano y sintetizadores. El bajo lo ejecuta Mike Wilson.

El cóctel final, da una increíble mezcla que te mantendrá expectante. Encontramos Black Metal primario, pasajes de flauta que me recuerda a Carlos Nakai, y pasajes líricos como la intensa The Pale Host, sin necesidad de instrumentos eléctricos. Los interludios folk se entrelazan a la perfección, con las líneas a doble bombo del Black Metal . En momentos se llega a rozar el preciosismo más purista.

Todos sus temas son memorables, para oídos finos, el único tema de corta duración es el nombrado anteriormente, The Pale Host. El tema de su single de 2015, Heritage of the Natural Realm, es grandioso, por destacar uno en especial, con la intro en piano y flauta (Peter Kater/Carlos Nakai), para luego desatar el Black Metal depresivo y triste, una joya.

Espero poder escuchar la evolución de la banda. Un gran trabajo compositivo.

After launching the single “Heritage of the Natural Realm” in 2015, they achieve to edit in format digital this first full-length "Empires of Ash", and July 3 in physical format.

The band is formed with the objective of combine the passions by the Black Metal atmospheric and the Folklore of the popular music, their lyrical are based in themes fantastic and the nature.

While not is an album conceptual, the disc need be heard in its entirety, and in the order established, to keep the sense of them stories counted. Encloses a journey, in like the man destroys the nature and logic itself. This concept if it gives shape to the name Empires of Ash.

I hope to listen the evolution of the band. Great compositional work.
