Blackdeath es una banda de Black Metal, o como ellos lo llaman Apocalyptic Black Metal, fundada en el año 1995 en San Petersburgo, Rusia. Anteriormente conocidos como Draugwath, entre el año 95 y 96 y pasándose a llamar Black Draughwath entre el año 96 y el 98. Su discografía cuenta con 8 álbumes de estudio y numerosos EP’s y splits, siendo su último lanzamiento una recopilación de las canciones compuestas por ellos en dos splits anteriores lanzados en el año 2004 y 2005 respectivamente, junto a los franceses Mortifera y los norteamericanos Leviathan, llamado “Totentanz” y lanzado en Enero de este año a través de Heidens Hart Records.

Para esta nueva recopilación las canciones han sido remasterizadas, lo cual no significa que hayan adquirido un sonido nítido, y en un disco como este, ese detalle es un punto a favor. “Totentanz” mantiene el espíritu del Black Metal de principios de los 90. Composiciones violentas, crudas y muy frías, donde lo que predomina son los mid-tempos y los blast beats junto a riffs repetitivos y corrosivos que acrecentan la atmósfera destructora y salvaje, acompañados de la voz rasgada y aguda de Para Bellum, la cual recuerda a la utilizada por Varg Vikernes en sus primeros discos, dándole un aura extra de oscuridad al conjunto del álbum.
El punto negativo a este disco lo pone la batería programada, ya que en bastantes ocasiones se escucha muy artificial y por otra parte, el volumen está demasiado bajo en relación al resto de instrumentos.
En resumen, esta recopilación es una buena oportunidad para escuchar los temas grabados en ambos splits, los cuales probablemente se encuentren agotados a día de hoy. Si ya conoces a Blackdeath sabes perfectamente lo que te vas a encontrar y si no los conoces y te gusta el Black Metal crudo y primitivo, es un disco que no deberías perderte.

Their discography has 8 Studio albums and numerous EP’s and splits, being their last release a compilation of the songs composed by them in two previous splits released in 2004 and 2005 respectively, along with Mortifera and Leviathan, called "Totentanz" and released in January of this year through Heidens Hart Records.
For this new compilation tracks have been remastered, which does not mean that they have acquired a clear sound, and on an album like this, that is a plus. "Totentanz" maintains the spirit of Black Metal of the early 90s. Raw, very cold and violent compositions where what prevails are mid-tempos and the blast beats along with riffs repetitive and corrosive to maximize the destructive and wild atmosphere, accompanied by the torn and acute voice of Para Bellum, which resembles the one used by Varg Vikernes on his first records, giving an extra aura of darkness to the whole of the album.
The negative point to this album is the machine drums, since on many occasions listening very artificial and on the other hand, the volume is too low in relation to the rest of instruments.
In short, this compilation is a good chance to hear the tracks recorded in both splits, which are probably sold out. If you know Blackdeath you know perfectly what you’ll find, and if you don’t know them and you like the raw and primitive Black Metal, it is an album that you should not miss.
