Crítica: Obscenity – Retaliation (2016)

Obscenity se formó en el año 1989 en la Baja Sajonia, Alemania y desde entonces no han hecho más que engrandecer su legado a base de grandes discos de auténtico Death Metal y tocar en los mejores festivales de la escena como en el With Full Force, Wacken Open Air o el No Mercy Festival.

Hace escasos días, concretamente el 27 de Mayo, salió a la luz su noveno disco de estudio, llamado “Retaliation” y os aseguro que está destinado a ser uno de los mejores discos del género de los que han aparecido este año.

“Retaliation” es un álbum completo en donde encontraremos predominantemente el Death Metal más clásico, pero también tiene un cierto aire a Brutal Death.

En los 39 minutos que dura “Retaliation” no hay un momento de respiro y el headbanging al que incita este disco es constante. En este álbum encontraremos una sección rítmica muy sólida a base de mid-tempos, up-tempos y blast beats machacones, todo ello aderezado con riffs oscuros, pasajes más tipicamente europeos y solos tanto desquiciantes como melódicos. El trabajo vocal es idóneo para este tipo de género, en el vamos a encontrar el deathgrowl como tónica general, pero también hay momentos de voces rasgadas más agudas, con lo cual la ferocidad transmitida es mucho mayor.

Dificilmente se puede hacer una selección de las mejores canciones que conforman este álbum, ya que todas y cada una de ellas merecen una mención especial, pero si os queréis hacer una idea de lo que vais a encontrar, se puede citar la primera canción “Claustrophobic Hell”, ya que en ella se combinan los dos registros vocales que aparecen a lo largo del disco y los riffs y breaks mas Old School. Por otra parte, canciones como “Whore of Secret” o “Soul Eater” contienen ese punto de Death Metal europeo con solos más melódicos y armónicos.

En resumen, un disco que tiene todas las características para gustar a los fans de Obscenity y para todos aquellos que todavía no los conocen. Ni sobra ni falta absolutamente nada.

Obscenity was formed in 1989 in Lower Saxony, Germany, and since then they have not done more to enlarge his legacy-based great authentic Death Metal albums and playing in the best festivals the scene in With Full Force, Wacken Open Air or the No Mercy Festival.

Few days ago, specifically on 27 May, it came to light their ninth Studio album, called "Retaliation" and I assure you that it is destined to be one of the best albums of the genre that have appeared this year.

"Retaliation" is an album where we find predominantly Death Metal classic, but also has a certain taste of Brutal Death.

In the 39 minute lasting "Retaliation" there isn’t a moment of respite and the headbanging that incites this album is constant. In this album we find a very solid rhythm section-based mid-tempos, up-tempos and heavy beats blast, all spiced with dark riffs, passages more typically European and solos both stressful and melodic. The vocal work is ideal for this kind of genre, in the we find the deathgrowl as a general trend, but also there are moments of sharpest torn voices, which transmitted ferocity is much greater.

Hardly can make a selection of the best songs that comprise this album, since each of them deserve a special mention, but if you want to make an idea of what you are going to find, one can quote the first song "Claustrophobic Hell", since it combines two vocal records that appear throughout the album and riffs and breaks more typically Old School. On the other hand, songs such as "Whore of Secret" or "Soul Eater" contain that point of European Death Metal with melodic and harmonic solos.

In short, an album that has all the features to appeal to fans of Obscenity and for those who still do not know them. Neither excess nor missing absolutely nothing.
