Crítica: Myth of a Life – She Who Invites (2016)

Hoy es el día de confirmar una de esas curiosidades recurrentes. En 2013, el guitarrista de origen japonés, Takanori Shono, inicia MYTH OF A LIFE, como un proyecto de un solo músico. Utiliza demos incompletos, de cuando aún era músico de IMPENETRABILITY, banda japonesa de Death Metal Melódico. Estos demos se convirtieron en la base del EP “Erinyes” del 2014, debut de MYTH OF A LIFE, autofinanciado. El proyecto fue acompañado por Damiano Porcelli (ex -GOLEM), baterista de origen italiano y el cantante Phil ’Core’ Dellas, de origen griego. Ellos forman de aquí en adelante el núcleo de la banda. Charlie Power, su bajista de sesión y en vivo, se une como miembro oficial en noviembre de 2014, se retira de la banda en febrero de 2016 por diferencias musicales. A inicios de 2015, con el guitarra Dave Warren completan la banda, pero su falta de compromiso lo llevó a su retirada en agosto. Desde entonces, la banda decidió continuar como cuarteto.

Las raíces culturales de sus miembros se combinan con el fin de fusionar melodías obscuras propias del Death Metal, con riffs feroces dignos del mejor Thrash Metal. En marzo de 2015, la banda firma contrato con la discográfica griega Sleaszy Rider. En mayo de 2016, su batería Damiano Porcelli abandona la banda amigablemente. La alineación final es la siguiente: Liam Bancos en el bajo (ex – Lacrota), William Price en la guitarra (Psython), Alexander Bond en la batería y Dellas Phil ‘Core’ en las voces, que es el único miembro original. En junio de 2016 se lanza “She Who Invites”, con su propia discográfica.

“She Who Invites”, llega a ser una gran obra de Death Metal Melódico y contemporáneo, llega en momentos a rozar el Metal core. Dos registros bien definidos: el Growl cavernoso, ejecutado de forma magistral, influenciado por el sonido Goteborg, y el chillido propio del Metalcore.

Las baterías, mantienen la velocidad constante, logrando solvencia y solidez en el sonido de la banda.

Las guitarras logran riffs rápidos, feroces y contagiosos. Los solos de guitarra son maravillosos, renuncian a la velocidad a favor del sentimiento y armonía propios del Heavy Metal. La intro para “Codex of Betrayal”, de corte neoclásico logra una atmósfera sublime. La corta, “Through the River”, otro precioso arreglo, a la velocidad exacta para disfrutar de su armonía. Para el corte final, "Burning Vision", que ésta con su intro nos sumerge en esa vena neoclásica.

Mención aparte, los cortes “Erinyes” y “She Who Invites”, poco contundentes, para mi gusto. Son los más accesibles, los más fáciles de digerir. Los cortes agresivos y destacables “Scourged and Crucified”; “Pull the Trigger”, brutal, es para mi gusto el track más imponente; “Broken”, con un Dellas Phil ‘Core’ dejando unos inmensos guturales. Lo mejor para el final, los 3 cortes que cierran este excelente ejercicio de poder Death Metal: “Waiting to Die”, “Murder” y "Burning Vision”.

12 cortes en poco más de 47 minutos. Recomendado para los que gustan del Death Metal de la escuela Goteborg impuesta por los mejores años de Dark Tranquility y At The Gates.

Today is the day to confirm one of those recurring references. In 2013, the Japanese guitarist, Takanori Shono, starts MYTH OF A LIFE, as a project of a single musician. He uses incomplete demos, when he still was musician of IMPENETRABILITY, japanese Melodic Death Metal band. These demos became at the base of the EP "Erinyes" in 2014, debut of MYTH OF A LIFE, self-financed. The project was accompanied by Damiano Porcelli (ex-GOLEM), Italian-born drummer and greek singer, Phil ‘Core’ Dellas. Hereafter, they form the core of the band. Charlie Power, their bassist of session and live, joins as an official member in November 2014, withdraws from the band in February 2016 due to musical differences. In early 2015, with the guitarist Dave Warren they completed the band, but his lack of commitment led him to his retirement in August. Since then, the band decided to continue as a Quartet.

The cultural roots of their members combine to merge dark melodies typical of Death Metal, with fierce worthy of the best Thrash Metal riffs. In March of 2015, the band signs contract with the greek record label Sleaszy Rider. On may 2016, his battery, Damiano Porcelli, left the band amiably. The final alignment is the following: Liam banks on bass (ex – Lacrota), William Price on guitar (Psython), Alexander Bond on drums and Dellas Phil ‘Core’ in the voices, this is the only original member. On June 2016 launches "She Who Invites", with his own label.

"She Who Invites", becomes a masterpiece of melodic Death Metal and contemporary, at times touch the Metal core. Two well-defined registers: the cavernous Growl, executed masterfully, influenced by the Gothenburg sound, and the squeal of Metalcore.

The drums, maintain constant speed, achieving solvency and solidity in the sound of the band.

Guitars achieve fast, ferocious and contagious riffs. . Them solos of guitar are wonderful, renounce to the speed in favor of the feeling and harmony own of the Heavy Metal. . The intro for "Codex of Betrayal", of cutting neoclassical achieves a sublime atmosphere. The short, "Through the River", another beautiful arrangement, at the exact speed to enjoy their harmony. For the final cut, "Burning Vision", this song with its intro immerses us in that neoclassical vein.

Mention apart, the cuts “Erinyes” and “She Who Invites”, less strong than other tracks of the LP, for my taste. They are the most accessible, the easier to digest. Outstanding and aggressive cuts "Scourged and Crucified"; "Pull the Trigger", brutal, is in my opinion the most stunning track; "Broken", with a Dellas Phil ‘Core’ leaving each immense gutturals. The best for the end, 3 cuts that close this excellent exercise of power Death Metal: “Waiting to Die”, “Murder” and “Burning Vision”.

12 tracks in a little more than 47 minutes. Recommended for those who like Death Metal from Goteborg school imposed by the best years of Dark Tranquility and At The Gates.
