Ascendor es una banda formada en el año 2011 en la isla de Gozo, Malta. Dos años después de su formación, lanzaron su primer álbum de larga duración llamado “Becoming” y en el 2015 vio la luz su segundo disco titulado “Drive My Demons Away”, del cual nos ocuparemos en esta reseña.

La formación se compone de: Steve Muscat (voces), Andy Fava (guitarra), Joe Costa (guitarra), Blasio Muscat (bajo) y Paul Formosa (batería).
“Drive My Demons Away” es un disco donde confluyen varios estilos y lo hace de manera muy sólida y dinámica. Por un lado encontramos la vertiente Thrash de la vieja escuela en prácticamente todo el álbum, y por otra se notan unas bases Groove en el que posiblemente la influencia de Pantera sea su máximo exponente o incluso riffs con reminiscencias del Power Metal americano. El tempo predominante a lo largo de 50 minutos es el mid-tempo, pero también encontraremos up-tempos; la variación de los tempos es una constante y el álbum fluye de manera que en ningún momento se hace aburrido o monótono. En cuanto a los riffs, en líneas generales son agresivos y machacones y estos son aderezado con solos que van desde lo caótico hasta lo melódico e incluso en el último tema llamado “Turn Water to Blood” se atreven a incorporar elementos de Hard Rock setentero, los cuales me han recordado a Uriah Heep. A todo ello hay que sumarle la voz de Steve Muscat, rasgada pero sin llegar al deathgrowl, dotando a “Drive My Demons Away” de una fuerza extra.
Personalmente, si tuviera que elegir varias canciones, destacaría “Fear of God” por ser la más thrasher y agresiva, “War Inside My Head” porque es la canción que mejor expone su vertiente más groovie y “Turn Water to Blood”, donde confluyen todos los elementos repartidos a lo largo de las ocho canciones de “Drive My Demons Away”.
En resumen, Ascendor lanzaron un álbum muy versátil que gustará tanto a fans del Metal más tradicional como al fan del Metal más moderno.

"Drive My Demons Away" is a record confluence of various styles and makes it very solid and dynamic way. On the one hand we find old school Thrash shed on virtually all of the album, and on the other are noticed some bases Groove in which the influence of Pantera possibly its greatest exponent or even riffs reminiscent of the American Power Metal. The predominantly tempo over a 50 minute is the mid-tempo, but we also find up-tempos; the variation of tempos is a constant and the album flows so that at any time it becomes boring or monotonous. Riffs, in general they are aggressive and heavys and these are seasoned with solos that range from the chaotic to the melodic and even in the last track called "Turn Water to Blood" dare to incorporate elements of seventies Hard Rock, which I have remembered to Uriah Heep. To all this must be added the voice of Steve Muscat, torn but without reaching the deathgrowl, providing "Drive My Demons Away" of extra strength.
In my opinion, the best songs are "Fear of God" to be the more thrasher and aggressive, "War Inside My Head" because it is the song that better exposes your shed more groovie and "Turn Water to Blood", where they come together all the elements scattered along the eight songs of "Drive My Demons Away".
In short, Ascendor released a very versatile album that will please both fans of more traditional Metal and the most modern Metal fan.
