Crítica: Karnak Seti – The Distance That Made Us Cold (2016)

Karnak Seti es una banda de Death Melódico/Thrash formada en el año 2001 en la isla de Madeira, Portugal. En su discografía cuentan con cuatro demos y tres álbumes de estudio, habiendo lanzado el último el 30 de Junio de este año 2016, titulado “The Distance That Made Us Cold”.

En líneas generales el último trabajo de Karnak Seti rezuma más Thrash moderno y Groove que Death Melódico propiamente dicho, aunque la impronta de este último género continúa estando ahí. Su sonido está mucho más cercano al de Soilwork o la era “Reroute to Remain” de In Flames, que al de At The Gates, por poner un ejemplo.

Rítmicamente predominan los ritmos rápidos, machacones y fuertemente marcados, además también hay lugar para el mid-tempo, como por ejemplo en la canción “Stolen”. No faltan tampoco los breaks, los cuales recuerdan en muchas ocasiones al Metalcore. A pesar de ser rítmicamente sólido y consistente, se echa en falta un plus de fluidez, puesto que estructuralmente todas las canciones son similares entre ellas y finalmente da la sensación de estar escuchando una y otra vez la misma canción. En cuanto a la melodía, la característica principal son los riffs agresivos, los cuales están en absoluta armonía con la sección rítmica, creando un conjunto potente y el complemento perfecto para no dejar de hacer headbanging. A ello hay que sumarle los melódicos solos de guitarra y es aquí donde el Death Melódico es el absoluto protagonista, ya que generalmente la parte más melódica queda relegada únicamente a los solos. Todo ello queda aderezado con una voz rasgada rezumando ira a lo largo de todo el álbum y además revestido en ocasiones con coros donde la voz principal acompaña a voces limpias.

En conclusión, no estamos ante un mal disco, pero el hecho de contar con detalles que modernizan su sonido no hace que este álbum sobresalga de la media a día de hoy.

Karnak Seti is a Melodic Death /Thrash Metal band formed in 2001 on the island of Madeira, Portugal. In their discography are four demos and three Studio albums, having launched last June 30, entitled "The Distance That Made Us Cold".

In general lines Karnak Seti‘s last album sounds more modern Thrash and Groove than Melodic Death Metal in strict sense. Its sound is much closer to Soilwork or to the "Reroute to Remain" album of In flames than At The Gates, for example.

Rhythmically dominated the fast, heavy and strongly marked rhythms, in addition there is also place for the mid-tempo, as for example in the song "Stolen". There is neither breaks, which remind many times to Metalcore style. Though rhythmically consistent and solid, an excess of fluency is miss since all songs are structurally similar among them and finally seems to be listening to the same song over and over again. Melodically , the main feature are aggressive riffs, which are in absolute harmony with the rhythm section, creating a powerful set and the perfect complement to not stop doing headbanging. To this there are that add it melodic solos of guitar and it’s here where Melodic Death Metal is the absolute protagonist, since usually the part more melodic is relegated to the solos. All this is spiced with a voice torn exuding anger over full album and also covered sometimes with choirs where the main voice accompanies clean vocals.

In conclusion, it’s not a bad album, but the fact of having details that modernize its sound does this album stand below the median.
