Yomi es una banda formada en el año 2013 en Riga, Letonia. Su propuesta musical está basada en la mezcla del Folk japonés y el Death Metal. Después de disolverse durante un tiempo, debido a que los miembros no tenían tiempo para la banda, en el año 2014 se reunieron Artiom (voces, instrumentos tradicionales) y Nikita (guitarra) rellenaron los huecos que quedaban en el line-up, uniéndose Tom al bajo y Stephania a la batería. Un año más tarde lanzaron su álbum debut titulado “Age of the Gods”.

“Age of the Gods” incluye 10 canciones y una duración de 35 minutos donde predomina el mid-tempo de Death Metal, aunque el protagonista del álbum son los instrumentos tradicionales japoneses, los cuales se encargan de la melodía al 100%, quedando el Death Metal como mero acompañamiento y en la mayoría de canciones haciéndolo de manera monótona. Por otra parte, la producción es bastante pobre y la mezcla de ambos estilos queda descompensada, dando la sensación de que han juntado dos canciones completamente diferentes para formar una sola y esto ocurre en la mayoría de las canciones del álbum.
En mi opinión, las mejores canciones son “Slaying the Disobedient” y “Fearsome Emishi” debido a que son las más pulidas en cuanto a armonía se refiere entre el metal extremo y el Folk.
Yomi es una banda que presenta una propuesta muy original y relativamente poco explotada, pero todavía les falta camino por recorrer para alcanzar un puesto notable en la escena. Dadles una oportunidad y opinad por vosotros mismos. Seguro que no dejarán indiferente a nadie.

Yomi is a band formed in the year 2013 in Riga, Latvia. Its proposed musical is based on the mixture of the Folk Japanese and Death Metal. After broke up during a time, in the year 2014 Artiom (folk-instruments, vocals) and Nikita (guitar) re-joined as a band, filled the gaps in the line-up, joining Tom to the bass and Stephania to the drums. A year later released their album debut entitled "Age of the Gods".
"Age of the Gods" includes 10 songs and a duration of 35 minutes where predominates the mid-tempo of Death Metal, although the protagonist of the album are them instruments traditional Japanese, which is in charge of the melody to the 100%, being the Death Metal as mere accompaniment and in the most of songs making it of way monotonous. Moreover, the production is quite poor and the mix of both styles is Decompensated, giving the feeling of that have coupled two songs completely different for form a single song and this occurs in the most of them songs of the album.
In my opinion, the best songs are "Slaying the Disobedient" and "Fearsome Emishi" because they are the most polished in terms of harmony between the extreme metal and Folk.
Yomi is a band that presents a very original proposal and relatively little exploited, but still need to way to go to achieve a remarkable position in the scene. Give them a chance and think for yourselves. I’m sure that this album does not leave indifferent to anyone.
